Dogs generally cost more to insure than cats
Purebreds, Pedigrees and certain breeds, i.e Persian Blue cats, will cost more to insure
Age, some companies will not insure pets over a certain age or some will not provide cover until the animal is at a certain age
As with all Insurance Policies there will be an excess, so you need to decide which scheme is best for you e.g pay a higher excess but have a lower premium, or have a high premium with a lower excess
Different areas can mean different rates i.e. Rural areas have a tendancy to be more expensive than urban areas
Some Policies may increase their rates each year as your pet gets older and the risk of illness increases
Some Policies have maximum payouts, for example, one company may have a maximum pay out for the duration of the Policy, others may have a maximum annual payout or some may have a maximum payout per claim
